Kort verslag eerste activiteit KIVI Kring Caribbean te Aruba
De eerste activiteit en tevens de start van de KIVI Kring Caribbean vond plaats op Aruba op 30 november 2021 in het gebouw van Aruba Experience, Oranjestad. Het doel van deze eerste activiteit was om de aanwezige ingenieurs en techniek studenten te informeren over het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs (KIVI) en wat het KIVI kan betekenen voor de professionaliteit van de ingenieur in het algemeen en in het bijzonder over de mogelijkheden om via het KIVI het vakgebied actueel te houden. Via een perscommunicatie en een persconferentie werd deze eerste activiteit aangekondigd om vooral de op Aruba aanwezige ingenieurs en techniek studenten uit te nodigen hierbij aanwezig te zijn.
Ruim 40 mensen, merendeels ingenieurs en techniek studenten, hebben hier aan gehoor gegeven. Het begon met een gelegenheid tot netwerken onder genot van drank en snacks. Door de kleinschaligheid waren vele aanwezigen bekend met elkaar en vormden er groepen die merendeels positief waren over het initiatief om met een KIVI Kring Caribbean te beginnen. Er klonken dan ook opmerkingen dat het KIVI niet zo maar een club is maar een serieuze club waarmee rekening moet gehouden. Verschillende aanwezige ingenieurs zeiden dat zij in hun studententijd al eens lid waren geweest van het KIVI.
Vervolgens werd een presentatie gehouden door ing. Marvin Weverink, lid van het bestuur. Hij vertelde de aanwezigen over wie KIVI is en wat het vooral doet en kan betekenen voor de ingenieur. Gevolgd door een ander bestuurslid Ir. Rubiëla Lampe-Chiquito die inging op wat het lidmaatschap inhield en de kosten hiervoor maar ook over het gebruik van de website en wat KIVI te bieden heeft op het gebied van de professionalisering van de ingenieur en het up-to-date houden van de vakdiscipline.
Tussendoor werd de presentatie opgefleurd met opgenomen toespraken van de accountcoördinator van de KIVI Kring Caribbean mevr. Elfride Dijkstra en de directeur van het KIVI Bureau in Den Haag de heer drs. ing. Miguel Delcour. Mevrouw Dijkstra bood de aanwezigen aan om haar vooral te benaderen over vragen van het lidmaatschap maar ook om via haar contacten te leggen met andere organisaties in Nederland, dus zo’n netwerkcoördinator tussen Aruba en Nederland. De heer Delcour liet de aanwezigen het prachtige pand met allerlei vergaderzalen van het KIVI Bureau in Den Haag zien, de redactiekamer van het KIVI-blad dat maandelijks verschijnt met 64 pagina’s vol technisch nieuws. Hij eindigt met een uitnodiging aan alle Arubaanse ingenieurs om, mochten ze in Nederland zijn, een bezoek te brengen aan het KIVI Bureau gelegen aan de Prinsessegracht nummer 23 te Den Haag.
Tenslotte deed ir. Leopoldo Henriquez, sinds 1986 (35 jaar) lid van het KIVI, een oproep aan de aanwezige ingenieurs en techniek studenten om lid te worden. Aan de hand van voorbeelden gaf hij aan wat de meerwaarde van het KIVI voor hem als ingenieur al die jaren heeft betekent en nog steeds betekent. Tevens benadrukte hij dat het belangrijk is om deel te nemen aan de activiteiten om vooral de kennis en expertise te delen, en te discussiëren over maatschappelijk relevante problemen die een technische aanpak behoeven, maar ook vooral om te netwerken met de kans op nieuwe bedrijfsactiviteiten.
Na de presentatie werd gelegenheid geboden om verder te net werken.
Short report on the first activity of the KIVI Circle Caribbean on Aruba
The first activity and also the start of KIVI Circle Caribbean took place in Aruba on 30 November 2021 in the Aruba Experience Building in Oranjestad. The aim of this first activity was to inform the engineers and technology students present about the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) and what KIVI can mean for the professionalism of the engineer in general and in particular about the possibilities to keep the field of expertise up to date by KIVI. This first activity was announced via a press communication and a press conference to specially invite the engineers and technology students present on Aruba to attend.
More than 40 people, mostly engineers and technology students, responded to this. It started with an opportunity to network while enjoying drinks and snacks. Due to the small scale, many attendees were familiar with each other and groups formed that were mostly positive about the initiative to start a KIVI Circle Caribbean. There were also comments that KIVI is not just a club, but a serious club that must be taken into account. Several engineers present said that they had already been members of KIVI during student days.
A presentation was then given by Ing. Marvin Weverink, member of the board. He told those present about who KIVI is and what it mainly does and can mean for the engineer. In between, the presentation was brighten up with recorded speeches by the account coordinator of the KIVI Circle Caribbean Mrs. Elfride Dijkstra and the director of the KIVI Bureau in The Hague, Drs. Ing. Miguel Delcour. Mrs. Dijkstra offered those present to approach her for questions about membership but also to establish contacts through her with other organizations in the Netherlands, so a network coordinator between Aruba and the Netherlands.
