Ingenieursvereniging KIVI nu ook in de Cariben
Met inmiddels ruim 17 duizend leden is het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs (KIVI), dat volgend jaar haar 175-jarig bestaan viert, een begrip in Nederland. Nu breidt de beroepsvereniging zich uit naar de Caribische delen van het Koninkrijk met KIVI-Kring Caribbean, die op Aruba van start gaat.
KIVI-Kring Caribbean wil een netwerk vormen waarin ingenieurs van Aruba, Curaçao, Sint-Maarten en van de BES-eilanden samenkomen en kennis uitwisselen. Ze doet dit door het organiseren van conferenties, Webinars, lezingen, excursies, netwerkborrels etc.
Het belangrijkste doel van KIVI-Kring Caribbean is om de kwaliteit van het leven op voornoemde eilanden te helpen verbeteren door de inzet van duurzame technologie waarbij de mens, de natuur en het milieu optimaal worden beschermd. Hierbij staat de integriteit van de ingenieur centraal. Leidend is hierbij de Ethische Code van het KIVI (zie KIVI Ethische Code 2018.pdf ).
De eerste activiteit is al gepland: een kennismakingsborrel op dinsdag 30 november van 6 tot 8 pm. Deze activiteit vindt plaats bij Aruba Experience in de John. G. Emanstraat 37, Oranjestad.
Het bestuur stelt zich voor en presenteert een activiteitenplan voor het komende jaar. Ook is er gelegenheid voor discussie.
De kosten voor deelname zijn AWG fls 35,00 en voor studenten geldt een deelname prijs van AWG fls 15,00. De bedragen kunnen bij binnenkomst worden betaald.

Achtergrond:
In de KIVI-Nieuwsbrief van 26 oktober 2021 heetten het Hoofdbestuur van het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs (KIVI: zie Het Koninklijk Instituut Van Ingenieurs | KIVI) en het KIVI-team haar nieuwe KIVI-Kring Caribbean van harte welkom.
KIVI werd opgericht op 31 augustus 1847, onder bescherming van de toenmalige Prins van Oranje en is de beroepsvereniging van ingenieurs in Nederland met ruim 17.000 leden. Het ondersteunt de ingenieurs in hun beroepsuitoefening en de erkenning van de waarde van hun werk.
Daarnaast helpt KIVI ingenieurs met het leggen van verbindingen met onderzoek, onderwijs, de samenleving en uiteraard met elkaar. Daarbij helpt het ook met de waarborg van de kwaliteit van onderwijs en onderzoek, het werk en de kennis van ingenieurs in te zetten ten dienste van maatschappelijke vraagstukken en de impact van technologie op de samenleving zichtbaar te maken.
Met dit doel werkt KIVI samen met het technisch bedrijfsleven, kennisinstellingen, het hoger onderwijs, de overheid en buitenlandse partners.

The Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers (KIVI) also in the Caribbean
With more than 17,000 members, the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers (“Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs, KIVI”), which will celebrate its 175 anniversary next year, is a well-known organization in the Netherlands. Now the professional organisation is expanding to the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands with its KIVI circle Caribbean (“KIVI-Kring Caribbean”), starting on Aruba.
The KIVI Circle Caribbean (KIVI-Kring Caribbean) wants to form a network in which engineers from Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the BES-islands come together and exchange knowledge. She does this by organising conferences, webinars, lectures, excursions, networking drinks etc.
The main goal of the Circle Caribbean (KIVI-Kring Caribbean) is to help improve the quality of life on the aforementioned islands by using sustainable technology that optimally protects people, nature and the environment. The integrity of the engineer is central to this. The KIVI Code of Ethics is leading in this regard (KIVI Ethische Code 2018.pdf).
The first activity is already planned: an introductory networking drink on Tuesday the 30th of November 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. This activity takes place at Aruba Experience in the John G. Emanstraat 37, Oranjestad.
The board introduces itself and presents an activity plan for the coming year. There is also opportunity for discussion.

Background:
In the KIVI newsletter of 26 of October 2021 the General Board of Directors of the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers in the Netherlands (KIVI) and its team warmly welcome its new K IVI Circle Caribbean.
KIVI was founded on 31 August, 1847, under patronage of the then Prince of Orange and is the professional organisation of engineers in the Netherlands with more than 17,000 members. It supports the engineers in their professional practice and the recognition of the value of their work.
In addition, KIVI helps engineers make connections with research, education, society and, of course, with each other. In doing so, it also helps to guarantee the quality of education and research, and to use the work of knowledge of engineers for the benefit of social issues and to make the impact of technology on society visible.
To this end, KIVI works together with the technical business community, knowledge institutions, higher education, the government and foreign partners.
