CLIMATE FORECASTS: Limits to Predictability

Dinsdag 21 april 2020, 19.30-21.00 uur

Our climate is changing. In order to predict what’s going to happen with temperature and precipitation in the long term accurate climate models are crucial. Peter Bauer (Director of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) explains how climate models can be made more reliable. Ad Lagendijk (physicist at UvA & UT) reflects on tensions between accuracy and costs. Albert van den Berg (scientific director of MESA+) will discuss algae-on-chip to study the oceanic carbon cycle for CO2-capture. What will be the effect of climate-engineering? With panel discussion!
