Just look at the appearance of charging points for electric cars near private homes and on public sites. NewMotion, a Dutch company that was started in 2009, claims to have provided 30 000 charging points for private homes and 50 000 at public sites. No wonder that Navigant, a Chicago company, declared them world leader in this field.

Now Shell has read the writing on the wall and bought NewMotion outright, recognizing that the trend towards PEVs (Plug-in Electric vehicles) might not immediately herald the downfall of the oil empire, but it surely would cut in the end into their bottom line.
Under the banner “If you can’t beat them, join them!” they took the next step towards being an energy company and away from being just an oil company (the first step was “More gas!”).
