The Netherlands has been enjoying the bonanza of its large natural gas resources for the past 50 years. Gas plays a central role in the country’s energy supply as well as a major source of income for the government. This can and will not last. The Dutch gas production has reached it’s limits. The question is therefore:
How will the gas industry develop in the next 50 years, both in the Netherlands and in a converging Europe? What is happening? These questions will be addressed not in the format of the well known energy scenarios, but from the perspective from the developments which are taking place in the gas infrastructure.

Al 50 jaar geniet Nederland van de bonanza van zijn gasvoorraden. Gas speelt een centrale rol in de Nederlandse energievoorziening en is ook een onmisbare bron van inkomsten voor de staatskas. Dat kan en zal niet zo doorgaan. De grenzen van de NL gasproductie zijn bereikt. De vraag is dus:
Hoe ontwikkeld de gasindustrie zich in de komende 50 jaar in NL en EU? Wat is er aan het gebeuren? Deze vragen zullen worden besproken niet in de bekende energie scenario’s maar vanuit het perspectief van de ontwikkelingen in de gasinfrastructuur.
