Eric Vaughan, COO Cuadrilla Resources
Cuadrilla Resources has acquired exploration licenses for 7500 square kilometres in the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Poland. Cuadrilla's estimate of 200 tcf for the Bowland shale was initially greeted with scepticism, but more than validated when British Geological Survey's recent assessment turned out even higher.
Currently, environmental impact assessments are ongoing for projects in the UK and in the Netherlands. Cuadrilla has drilled three exploration wells in the Bowland Basin, acquired over 100 km2 of 3D seismic and performed five hydraulic fracture treatments and flow-tested one well. Eric Vaughan, Chief Operations Officer of Cuadrilla Resources, will give a presentation on the history and future plans of the project and how some of the highly visible public concerns are being addressed. He will explain the basics of well construction, hydraulic fracturing, natural gas use and seismicity and how these are managed to protect the environment.

Caudrilla Resources heeft 7500 vierkante kilometer aan exploratie licenties verkregen in Groot-Brittannie, Nederland en Polen. Het bedrijf heeft eerder geschat dat er voor 200 tcf aan gas in het Britse Bowland Shale Basin zit. In eerste instantie werd deze schatting sceptisch ontvangen, maar inmiddels is deze meer dan bevestigd door de Britse Geologische Dienst, die recent zelfs tot een hoger getal kwam.
Op dit moment zijn er milieu effect rapportages gaande in Engeland en Nederland voor projecten die Cuadrilla op stapel heeft staan. Er zijn tot nu toe drie putten geboord in het Bowland Basin. Caudrilla heeft verder meer dan 100 vierkante kilometer aan 3D seismisch onderzoek voltooid, vijf ‘hydraulic fracture’ operaties gedaan en één put getest op productiepotentieel.
Eric Vaughan, hoofd operaties van Cuadrilla, zal een presentatie geven over de geschiedenis van het project en de toekomstplannen. Hij zal tevens ingaan op enkele zorgen die op dit moment actueel zijn in de media, en daarbij uitleg geven over de constructiemethode van de putten, de principes van “hydraulic fracturing” en seismische activiteit door gaswinning, en hoe deze beheerst worden om het milieu te beschermen.
