KIVI Kring Caribbean organiseert op donderdag 17 februari om 6.00 pm Aruba-tijd (Nederlandse tijd = 23.00 uur) een webinar met  betrekking tot built environment voor tropisch klimaat met de heer Richenel Bulbaai als gastspreker.

Energy-efficient building design for a tropical climate: a field study on the Caribbean Island Curaçao

Biografie:

Richenel Bulbaai was born on Curaçao on December 13, 1967. After having finished Secondary school in 1986, he studied electrical engineering (BSc) at the University of Curaçao (UoC), where he graduated in 1990. He continued his studies in electrical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, where he obtained his MSc in 1995. In 1997, he joined UoC’s Faculty of Engineering as a lecturer in the department of electrical engineering where he specialized himself in the areas of Information Technology & Electrical Systems. He combined this work with a study in Business Administration at the UoC and obtained his MBA in 2006. He has held various positions within the Faculty of Engineering, such as chairman of the examination board, chairman of the faculty council, chairman of the research committee, coordinator of the Electrical Engineering department and dean of the Faculty of Engineering. From 2007-2013 he served as the dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UoC. Currently, Richenel Bulbaai again holds the position of Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UoC. Richenel obtained the degree of doctor at the University of Twente in 2019.

The title of his dissertation is Toward 100% Sustainable energy production and a structural decrease in energy demand: Curaçao, as a case study of Small Island Developing States. Richenel is professionally particularly interested in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and information technology. He teaches Renewable energy; Energy efficiency; Electrical networks; Mathematics; Engineering & society; Research design and research methods, Electrical power systems and; Symmetrical components in the electric grid. He has supervised more than 100 BSc students and several MBA thesis projects on areas such as energy-saving, renewable energy, waste management, and electrical power systems. Richenel recently published an article about passive building designs for tropical climates. This article "Energy-Efficient Building Design for a Tropical Climate: A Field Study on the Caribbean Island Curaçao" was published in the international scientific journal "Sustainability". In 2017, he was appointed by the Government as a member of the Supervisory board at Aqualectra, the Water and Electricity production and distribution company in Curaçao for the period 2017 - 2021. In January 2022, he was appointed as technical advisor to the Supervisory Board of Aqualectra. Richenel Bulbaai is married and has three daughters.
