KIVI has partnered with the Eindhoven University of Technology to offer a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) for engineers who want to meet the requirements to obtain and maintain the internationally recognised Chartered Engineer qualification.

The course ‘Ethics, Technology and Engineering’ can be taken either as part of Initial Professional Development (IPD) or as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and they correspond to the requisite competencies determined by KIVI.

The course consists of the following 8 modules:

  1. The responsibilities of engineers
  2. Codes of Conduct
  3. Normative ethics
  4. The ethical cycle
  5. Ethical questions in the design of technology
  6. Designing morality
  7. Ethical aspects of technical risks
  8.  The distribution of responsibility in engineering

Each of these modules contain a discussion prompt (participants must respond to a statement and each other's views), a real-life case (illustrated by video) with questions, texts with questions, a video lecture with questions, an assignment and a test to proceed to the next module. Finally, there is a final exam at the end of the full course.
