 Event Overview & Intent

The primary objective of this event is to introduce organisations across all sectors to our Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programmes and explore opportunities for collaborative Research and Development (R&D) projects.

An EngD project is a one-year, full-time paid assignment where a highly qualified engineering candidate develops a tailored solution specifically for your organisation. These projects typically achieve a Technology Readiness Level between TRL 4 and TRL 5, serving as vital enablers for future components of your strategic roadmap.

 

Common Project Scopes:

  • Designing and validating new system architectures.
  • Integrating emerging technologies into existing operations.
  • Developing and optimising new processes.

Who Should Attend?

We welcome representatives from startups, SMEs, large corporations, public authorities, and non-profit organisations across diverse sectors—including, but not limited to, high-tech, defence, water governance, education, and NGOs.

This event is designed for your organisation if:

  • You have clear R&D or technical needs but lack the internal capacity or full-time equivalent (FTE) personnel to execute them.
  • You require the aid of academic experts in a specific domain to solve complex problems.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive with specific engineering, data, or operational challenges that require academic or advanced R&D expertise. By partnering with the TU/e EngD programme, your organisation secures a dedicated engineer backed by a comprehensive support ecosystem:

  • Academic Supervision: Continuous guidance from a university scientific supervisor who is an expert in the field.
  • Resource Access: Full access to research facilities, scientific literature, and an extensive R&D network.
  • Financial Structure: The base cost for a project is €8,000 per month. Additional costs may apply depending on the scope if specific laboratory equipment or specialised facilities are required. Funding experts will be present at the event to discuss public mechanisms, grants, and co-funding possibilities to support these collaborations.
