DOW and Yara have signed a contract to utilize and old gas pipeline to transport hydrogen. This transport has to replace the transport by trucks as it currently occurs between both companies. Using the pipeline should reduce the energy consumption by about 0.15 petajoule annually. Also a reduction in CO2-emission of about 10,000 ton per year is expected.

Other companies are still negotiating to join the hydrogen roundabout. If other companies would take part in the project the reduction in CO2-emission can increase up to 40,000 ton per year. The project is a green deal that was made in 2016 already. The government participates in a green deal to support the project and to contribute financially.

The pipeline was originally scheduled to be in operation in 2017 already, but preparations and negotiations took longer than expected. After some modifications to the pipeline that are to start in May, it has to be in operation from the last quarter of 2018 onward.
