Process plant layout is an important engineering part in de development of a chemical plant. Although is getting less attention in chemical engineering courses, the importance does not decrease. To make it easier to teach process plant layout, a good book on it is required.

The classic Mecklenburgh’s Process Plant Layout from 1985 is still an important text book in this field, but since it is from 1985, some things should be updated. A lot of work has been done already to update the text, extend it with additional relevant information, remove outdated information and make it a complete renewed edition. Where computer technology was just starting up in 1985, it is of main importance now.

Lots of professionals in the field of plant layout retire which makes it urgent to get young educated engineers. Many rules of thumb that are used by the old generation are incorporated in this text book to keep the knowledge alive.

This new book must be better than the original and the original was great already. More information can be found here.
