Bio Energy Netherlands starts building an installation for commercial gasification of non-recyclable wood. Already in 2018 the production of electrical energy and heat for district heating has to start. The installation is built modularly, to be able to adapt to a flexible demand of energy. In the future, also hydrogen and CO2 have to be produced as a feedstock for the chemical industry.

Gasification instead of burning has to result in a much higher yield and a lower emission of NOx, hence resulting in a cleaner process. The non-recyclable feedstock would have no other purpose than burning and in this way more valuable products are obtained from it. The feedstock is collected in the region, which limits transportation.

The plant is built in the port of Amsterdam and fits in the strategy to increase the production of sustainable energy. It also creates possibilities for development of chemical industry in the region.
