It will be an unforgettable makers’ festival. After issuing a call for makers to register via the Call for Makers, the organisers of the fair, TU Delft Science Centre and X TU Delft, were blown away by the enthusiasm and registrations of (Delft) creative spirits. It’s the best proof possible that Maker Faire is a festival that belongs in the tech city of Delft.

From pinstripes, Lego robots and self-made solar panels to recycling initiatives and 3D printed jewellery, the Maker Faire Delft has it all. The many versatile makers exhibit the great diversity of creativity and technology in Delft. What the organisers had already guessed beforehand has now been confirmed by the number of registrations received. The seed planted two years ago has been welcomed with a great deal of enthusiasm by the city and region: a very auspicious sign of a new, spectacular and varied makers’ festival in Delft.

The festival will take place on 4 and 5 June on the TU Delft campus. Visitors will be entertained and stimulated in various ways. They will be welcomed with workshops, demos, talks and a hall full of exhibitors with presentations. The idea is to create something new together. In short, there will never be a dull moment for visitors. The festival also aims to bring the art of making to a higher level. What is the impact of new concepts on our future? How can these contribute to the necessary energy transition? Or how can we design and recycle for a more sustainable future? These themes are playing out not only in society at large but also in the makers’ culture.

Although the festival primarily targets everyone over the age of 12, there is also more than enough to do for the younger ones. Youngsters can have fun visiting the Makers’ Space of Junior IOT during Maker Faire Delft.

Exceptional Makers

Amidst all this outburst of creative makers’ energy, you will find a number of exceptional pearls. The project by Jerry de Vos is one example. This graduate of TU Delft has developed a plastic scanner that makes it possible for people in Third World countries to easily and cheaply identify plastic so that it can be recycled more efficiently. This concept has already gained him a number of awards. During the Maker Faire Delft, he will tell us more about it, and you will be able to help in building his newest work.

Rolf Hut, the well-known Macgyver professor at TU Delft, will be presenting a veritable light spectacle, during which he will work together with visitors to create a true work of art. As a visitor, you can work on a light component to help create an amazing result.

This project is not a one-off. The Maker Faire concept is all about cooperation aimed at achieving a new result. It’s about creative spirits working together on new concepts. If you don’t feel that creative, no worries. With its variety of exhibitors, the Maker Faire Delft stimulates and encourages the creative juices of young and old alike.

Both days will be wrapped up by LED Rebel: a well-known Flemish producer and music artist who, as the name suggests, will wrap up the Maker Faire Delft with LEDs and a spectacular audio-visual mashup show.
