Omschrijving

Are you a specialist in the field of Big Data Science? Are you interested in strengthening your knowledge while at the same time taking part in knowledge exchange? Then the Big Data Science Master Classes organised by Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers (KIVI) and TU Delft will be ideally suited to you.

The Master classes are an exchange of cutting edge research and knowledge developed within innovative companies. Furthermore the Master Classes give engineers and researchers the opportunity to inspire each other and to work together.

This year, the Big Data Science Master Classes will investigate in detail the following three research fields:

1. Smart Algorithms for Smart Grids – dr. Mathijs de Weerdt (TUD), dr. Matthijs Spaan (TUD)
The future electricity system requires flexible demand and increased communication, which brings about many novel and challenging algorithmic questions to support data-driven decision making. In this master class we will provide an entry-level survey of computational challenges in the smart grid, indicate the computational limitations of solving such problems, and explain possible algorithmic approaches such as mathematical modeling and dynamic programming. We will also give some concrete examples of using these in detail in realistic case studies.

2. Responsible Data Sharing: A vision of human-technology partnership – dr. M. Birna van Riemsdijk (TUD)
With the rise of AI and Data Science, personal and intimate technologies increasingly take decisions on our behalf on which data to collect and whom to share it with. In this masterclass we present philosophical and psychological background, a design approach, and software models for making the data sharing part of these technologies more flexible in accommodating our norms and values.

3. Software Analytics – dr. Andy Zaidman (TUD)
When we talk about ensuring the quality of a software product, not that much is known how people go about this. During this Master class, we will share insights that we have recently obtained when observing 2400 software engineers during their daily work. We look at how they test their software, how they use some of the latest enabling technologies, such as Continuous Integration, and we gauge how they go about solving the bugs they encounter.

The Master Classes are intended for engineers who are working in the field of the master classes, who already have knowledge on the subject, and who can contribute to the master classes through knowledge sharing and/or exchange of information/data.

The Master Classes are offered free of charge.
