De 5G Veiling komt dit jaar niet meer
AG Connect meldt, dat de veiling van 5G-frequenties opnieuw gaat worden uitgesteld. De Rijksdienst Digitale Infrastructuur (RDI) heeft dit tegen NU.nl aangegeven. Voor KPN, Vodafone en Odido (voorheen T-Mobile) betekent dit, dat het uitstel tot minimaal begin volgend jaar wordt, om de nieuwe 5G-frequenties te kunnen gebruiken.

Radio waves leaking from large satellite constellations could jeopardize astronomical exploration
The LOFAR radio telescope has shown that satellites can unintentionally emit radio waves that interfere with the observations of radio telescopes. Satellites circle the globe in ever increasing numbers. Their radio emission could, if not addressed, close unique and scientifically valuable windows into the Universe. It is of crucial importance for the astronomy sector and industry to collaborate to overcome these issues and for the International Telecommunications Union to establish regulation to control this emission.

Wireless power makes blind people see again
More than 43 million people worldwide are blind. In the past 30 years, that number has increased by roughly 50 percent. Most blind people are born with normal vision and lose their sight over time, due to medical causes or an accident. Often, the visual cortex in the brain is still capable of interpreting electrical signals, but the eyes or the connection between the eyes and brain are damaged or lost. It is possible to restore some form of sight by providing the right electrical signals to the visual cortex with an implant. PhD researcher Tom van Nunen has designed a wireless energy transfer system to safely and reliably connect to the implant, and developed a prototype. Tom van Nunen defended his thesis at the department of Electrical Engineering on February 8th, 2023.

Nieuwe naam voor Agentschap Telecom per 1 januari 2023 Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur (afgekort RDI).
Op 6 november 2022 maakte Minister Adriaansens van Economische Zaken en Klimaat officieel de nieuwe naam van Agentschap Telecom bekend. Dat deed zij via een korte tijdreis in Virtual Reality, tijdens een bijeenkomst bij Agentschap Telecom in Amersfoort. Ook burgemeester Bolsius van Amersfoort was daarbij aanwezig. Vanaf 1 januari gaat de toezichthouder verder als Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur (afgekort RDI).

Beveiliging van overheidsberichten is en blijft actueel onderwerp!
"Beveiliging van overheidsberichten" is nog steeds een actueel onderwerp, zo ook de uitwerking. Op 20 juli 2022 is op de HistoCrypt 2022 voor het eerste na 70 jaar, een lezing gehouden, waarin de geschiedenis van de crypto-apparatuur in Nederland na de Tweede Wereldoorlog in detail werd beschreven. Een deel van de geschiedenis, die in het boek, is indertijd beschreven door prof Oberman, die ooit ook de speurwerkprijs van het KIVI heeft gekregen. Een belangrijk deel van het boek is gebaseerd op tot voor kort staatsgeheime documenten en zijn privéarchief dat na 70 jaar weer beschikbaar kwam.

Wim Dik (83) overleden: de man die de PTT veranderde in KPN
Oud-KPN-topman Wim Dik is zondag overleden. De 83-jarige Helvoirtenaar was al geruime tijd ziek. Dik was 1989 tot 2000 de eerste voorzitter van de raad van bestuur van Koninklijke PTT Nederland (KPN). Zijn belangrijkste taak was om het vroegere staatsbedrijf om te vormen tot een succesvolle beursgenoteerde onderneming.

Terugblik op RF Technology event 2022 bij QuTech in Delft op 29 maart.
RF Technology event 2022 vond plaats bij QuTech in Delft op 29 maart 2022. Het programma van het RF Technology event zat vol met high-tech kennis over quantum computing, qubits, quantum hardware en hoogfrequente technologie. De expertise en de deskundigheid zijn zeker online te beleven, maar een fysieke rondleiding langs de diverse laboratoria bij QuTech was toch ook om fysiek mee te maken. Dit was een voorrecht van de bezoekers aan het RF Technology event. U kon naar het Steele lab, het lab van de microwave group, het QuTech institute lab en de spin-offs QBlox en Delft Circuits.

5 jaar 5Groningen met online Jubileum
5Groningen is het programma voor 5G-internet. Ondernemers en non-profitorganisaties werken samen met experts om toepassingen van 5G te testen. Denk daarbij aan zelfrijdende bussen of realtime data analyseren terwijl er een drone over de akkers vliegt. Ook maakt 5G het bijvoorbeeld mogelijk om op afstand een diagnose te stellen, doordat de arts in het ziekenhuis met een snelle verbinding live mee kan kijken in de ambulance. 5Groningen test toepassingen met 5G. Dus niet de techniek, maar wat je ermee kunt.
