Secure over-the-air firmware updates of IoT devices
Secure over-the-air updates in a massive and distributed deployment of IoT devices can be a truly challenging task. This is especially so when we are faced with one or more of the following aspects: heterogeneous devices, unreliable wireless connections, long operating lifetimes, battery powered devices,… In this workshop we will address recent technology innovations to achieve secure and scalable over-the-air firmware updates of low power IoT devices that are operated in challenging and dynamic environments.

Techcafé | Einstein Telescope
De Einstein Telescope is gepland als een derde-generatie telescoop voor de detectie en observatie van zwaartekrachtgolven. Zwaartekrachtgolven vervormen de ruimtetijd, ongeveer een eeuw geleden voorspeld door de algemene relativiteitstheorie van Albert Einstein. Voor de detectie van zwaartekrachtgolven is extreem gevoelige apparatuur nodig, die veranderingen in de ruimte kan meten die vele malen kleiner zijn dan een atoom. Bij de Einstein Telescope gaat het om een tunnel in driehoekvorm, waarbij elk van de armen 10 kilometer lang wordt. De telescoop komt horizontaal op 250 tot 300 meter diepte onder de grond te liggen. Op de drie hoekpunten komen grote ondergrondse ruimten. In de drie buizen die de zijden van de driehoek vormen, worden laserpulsen gelijktijdig afgevuurd. Zo'n laserstraal wordt gesplitst in twee bundels en die worden aan de uiteinden van elke 'arm' in de ondergrondse kamer teruggekaatst door spiegels. Om het systeem stabiel te houden moet het in een harde rots gebouwd worden. Limburg en Italië zijn de plaatsen waar dit kan. Er wordt hard gewerkt om dit project naar Limburg te halen. In het Techcafé van 12 september gaan we uitgebreid in op dit grote project op het gebied van precisietechnologie.

Binnen de spoorwegen verzorgt GSM-R voor de communicatie tussen het spoorwegpersoneel (machinist, conducteur, treindienstleiding, rangeerpersoneel etc.). In dit online mini-seminar zullen twee experts uit het bedrijfsleven een uiteenzetting geven van de technologie achter het GSM-R netwerk, de praktische toepassing ervan en de evolutie naar FRMCS.
